Bucs Win, Improve to 8-12

Behind some excellent pitching by Kip Wells the Pirates beat the Houston Astros 2-0 this afternoon to improve their record to 8-12 and giving them their first series win of the season over an opponent.

Wells allowed just 4 hits over 7 innings of scoreless ball and was relieved by Rick White, who after a rocky start earlier this season, has settled down his past several appearances. Jose Mesa pitched the 9th to record his 300th save, becoming the 19th player and 3rd Latin player to achieve that mark.

Offensively the Pirates continued to strand way too many runners leaving 16 on base and scoring 2 or fewer runs for the 11th time this season. The few bright spots were Jason Bay being 3 for 4 with a RBI and Jack Wilson 2 for 4 with an RBI as well. Hopefully the Pirate's bats will come more alive with men aboard on Friday when the Pirates face the Giants at 7:05 at PNC Park.

Mesa Earns his 300th Save

At bat Photos

I am convinced they must hire the people who work at the driver licensing centers around the country to also take the photographs that are used for the "Up to bat" and "Now Pitching" photos that MLB.com and also the stadiums use. That can be the only logical explanation why the players always look either asleep, high, its their mug shot, or they are a serial killer or something close to it.

Just some random thoughts that came to me when I was watching the Gameday play by play on MLB.com

One of the bright spots on the team recently I think has been Jose Mesa. From being claimed off the scrap heap by the Pirates he has definitely been one of the good free agent pickups that they have made the past few seasons. And yes I myself have been prone to complaining that he tends to make things more interesting then they need to be in the 9th sometimes, but he more oft then not pulls it out. The fact that he seemingly is a good person too always helps.

figured it might be good for you to know generally where my vantage point is for most of my postings. And no I did not take that picture myself, was lazy and just found one online that was as close as I could get to where I usually sit without actually having to go out and take a picture myself, not that energetic now. A New Beginning

Well yes I finally decided to hop into the 21st century here and whip up a blog to share with all of you the trials and tribulations of being one of those silly people, those we call Pittsburgh Pirates Fans. I will try to make this place a lot more then just a place for a bitch session for how the team sucks or who did what that was dumb, but to also just share the general experiences of being at the games because after all nothing can beat an evening or afternoon at the ball park!
